About the Project
Plastic waste should be seen as the valuable secondary raw material that it is and reintroduced into the production cycle, for example, to be used to make products locally where they are needed. Our machines can be used in a wide range of areas.
They can generate income, raise awareness, create innovative product ideas from recycled plastics and more. Our equipment has been used to produce PPE locally in over 15 countries during the COVID crisis.
Using our machinery and products and by transferring and sharing knowledge of technology, design, business development and waste management, we're able to generate three opportunities at once: The opportunity (1) for people to be self-sufficient by generating income from the sale of recycled plastic products needed locally, (2) for people to learn a sustainable entrepreneurship mindset; AND (3) for nature, as this secondary resource is returned to the production cycle instead of ending up in the environment.
The circular economy and design studio "doing circular" is an interdisciplinary team of creative minds who have set out to drive the transition to a circular economy by making plastic recycling easy, inexpensive and accessible to everyone around the world. We combine our technical solutions with our entrepreneurship education programmes to make as much of a positive impact as possible.
Partners: Sören Lex began building and using simplified plastic recycling machinery based on Precious Plastic (NLD) open design instructions in Uganda in 2016. We then completely rethought and developed the machinery using the human-centered design approach. We are currently refining our technical products and entrepreneurship curricula in a co-creative process with Austrian and international companies, NGOs and educational organisations.
