Understand the cow. From within
About the Project
How much time do cows spend chewing their cud?
Healthy cows should spend 6.5 to 10.5 hours a day chewing their cud. If they don't, that can often be a sign of health problems. In addition to the amount of time cows spend chewing their cud each day, other vital parameters such as body temperature and physical activity are important for farmers. They help ensure healthy livestock and milk production at their dairy.
Wouldn't it be great to automatically have access to this information 24/7 on your smartphone? We have a solution to this problem. Sensors in the cow's stomach let farmers monitor the well-being of their animals at any time, day or night.
smaXtec demonstrates in a unique way how the combination of traditional agriculture and high-tech creative energy leads to the development of products that provide the best possible support to farmers for the important and complex responsibility of producing food and leads to solutions to some of the most relevant global challenges.
smaXtec animal care GmbH has worked on the Internet of Cows, which began as a research project, since 2009. In 2016, smaXtec launched its Classic Bolus, which makes it possible to monitor health and reproduction to improve animal health and earnings. smaXtec is used in over 25 countries around the world.
Partners: Development was made possible by the team's technical expertise and a number of partnerships with leading research institutes in Austria.
